Cooperative d’Epargne et de Credit de Minembwe (COOPEMI)

Cooperative d’Epargne et de Credit de Minembwe - Savings and Loans Cooperative of Minembwe "COOPEMI" accredited by Central Bank of Congo under Ref: Govt. D. 03/ No 000622. It opened its door in April 2022 in Minembwe. This project is very crucial to community development and particularly in the post conflict and reconstruction phase. Population can make savings and loans for long-term investment for various individual, cooperative and community projects. We give loans to small projects to contribute to the growth of young entrepreneurs to free themselves financially and take the lead in community development.

 

COOPEMI has already trained more than five community cooperatives whose diligence and competence are appreciable. Currently COOPEMI has more than 200 members, 98 men and more than 105 women. It brings together 6 qualified personnel with necessary skills to serve the communities.

 

Apart from financial services, COOPEMI is committed to give 10% of its profit to support the education of orphans and other vulnerable children in Minembwe without distinction of religion, gender or tribe. COOPEMI, in collaboration with UEMI, also wants to support an education of excellence for future executives of state and private institutions through the scholarship program.

 

The vision of COOPEMI is to be bring financial and banking system closer to rural communities of Minembwe; a system that is sustainable, manageable, relevant to local context and well rooted in their communities.

The mission is to collect savings and grant loans in a cooperative manner to low-income rural populations of Minembwe and its environs with no access to banking system and promote income-generating activities to reduce poverty.

Objectives of COOPEC Minembwe are (i) to give financial services – savings and loans to local populations; (ii) teach people about the financial system (financial education); (iii) provide access to the people of Minembwe and its surroundings savings and loans services for socio-economic growth and local development including protection of environment; (iv) connect Minembwe to the national and international financial system (banking).
